Master Class 12 Biology Chapter 13 Biodiversity and Conservation with VVI MCQ and Online Quiz. 3-Level Challenge: Score 70% to unlock the next level!

ЁЯСЙ рдЕрдзреНрдпрд╛рдп рдХрд╛ рд╕рд╛рд░рд╛рдВрд╢ (Summary)

Dear students, in this final and highly crucial chapter of our syllabus, we will dive into 'Biodiversity and Conservation'. This branch of biology is not just about facts and figures; it is about the very future of our planet Earth. Biodiversity refers to the immense variety and variability of life on Earth, ranging from microscopic bacteria to giant blue whales. According to the famous sociobiologist Edward Wilson, biodiversity exists at 3 main levels: genetic, species, and ecological. Our planet is 1 huge home where more than 20,000 species of ants and 28,000 species of orchids coexist beautifully. Instead of just memorizing science in closed books, if we connect it with our daily life, it becomes truly eye-opening. Have you ever wondered why we don't see as many house sparrows or vultures as we used to a decade ago? Or why certain animals like the Dodo or the Steller's sea cow became 100 percent extinct? This is the alarming result of human activities like habitat loss and over-exploitation. From the strict perspective of the upcoming NCERT and RBSE board exams, this chapter is extremely high-scoring. Board exams consistently ask analytical questions about the 'Evil Quartet'тАФthe 4 major causes of biodiversity lossтАФand the difference between In-situ and Ex-situ conservation methods. In this exciting journey, we will first study the patterns of biodiversity. We will logically understand why the tropical regions, like the Amazon rainforest (often called the 'Lungs of the planet'), harbor 100 percent more species than temperate regions. We will analyze the 'Species-Area Relationship' given by Alexander von Humboldt, which proves that as we increase the explored area, the species richness also increases, but only up to 1 specific limit. These mathematical and graphical concepts are favorites for examiners in both board and competitive exams. Moving further, we will deeply analyze the 4 major reasons for the rapid decline in biodiversity: habitat loss and fragmentation, over-exploitation, alien species invasion (like the African catfish or Water hyacinth), and co-extinction. We will learn how 1 single human action can trigger a chain reaction that destroys an entire ecosystem. For instance, the introduction of the Nile perch into Lake Victoria led to the extinction of 100 percent of the unique cichlid fish species there. This highlights why preserving every single species is vital for our own survival. Finally, we will study the 2 main strategies for conservation. 'In-situ' or 'on-site' conservation involves protecting the whole ecosystem, such as through National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries, and Biosphere Reserves. On the other hand, 'Ex-situ' or 'off-site' conservation involves taking threatened animals and plants out of their natural habitat and placing them in special care, such as Zoological Parks, Botanical Gardens, and Seed Banks. We will also learn about international efforts like the Earth Summit and the World Summit for 100 percent sustainable development. Practicing these objective questions will help you master the concepts and score 100 percent in your exams. Feature: This is 1 3-Level based unique quiz. To unlock the next level (Level 2 and 3), students must score at least 70% in the current level, making their board exam preparation 100% strong.
